Space rocks!
August 31st, 2021Researchers at the University of Grenoble are studying meteorite samples using nanoscale IR spectroscopy. We are honored that our Mid-IR Laser – Carmina is an important part of the AFM-IR setup.
The extremely high spatial resolution of this method enables the research group of Pierre Beck to distinguish and decipher the structure of organic and mineral compounds within meteorite samples. By applying nanoscale IR spectroscopy, the researchers are aiming to create new insights into the processes during the formation of our solar system, in the framework of an EU-funded project (Solarys / ERC). Buiding on the excellent results obtained so far, future plans include similar investigations on Martian rocks, as well as samples from the asteroid named Ryugu, which were brought to us by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft.
We are curious to see which new and exciting observations will be published using our Mid-IR laser Carmina.
